2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was a pivotal year for Tarasov's NHL future, and he didn't rise to the challenge in 2024-25. The 26-year-old netminder went 7-10-2 with a 3.55 GAA and an .880 save percentage over 20 games. The numbers were just one part of the story -- Tarasov also lost opportunities to Jet Greaves at times throughout 2024-25, and Greaves' surge late in the season could leave a lasting impression. All this led to the Jackets' decision to trade Tarasov away to the Panthers this offseason. The youngster is a restricted free agent this summer, so he'll still need a new contract before he can serve as the No. 2 option behind Sergei Bobrovsky. Read Past Outlooks

Starting in Philadelphia
Tarasov will guard the road goal against the Flyers on Monday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Tarasov will make his Florida debut after being acquired from Columbus in the offseason. As a member of the Blue Jackets in the 2024-25 regular season, he provided a 7-10-2 record with one shutout, a 3.55 GAA and an .888 save percentage across 20 appearances. However, his numbers could get a boost behind the stingy Florida defense.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Tarasov started 2023-24 slowly, but between Feb. 21 and March 19, he registered an excellent .934 save percentage and a 2.30 GAA in nine games. He performed well despite the ongoing drama in the room and defense with more holes than Swiss cheese. Tarasov has shown he deserves the starter's role, and he could earn that position due to Elvis Merzlikins' deteriorating play. The 25-year-old Tarasov must stay healthy, but that's a refrain heard from many nets in the NHL. At a minimum, he will be the strong side of a platoon and deliver slightly above-average netminding, but issues with consistency and the team in front of him could drag down his fantasy appeal

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Likely starting Friday
Tarasov will likely serve as the starting netminder for Friday's road game against Pittsburgh, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
ANALYSIS
While the Blue Jackets haven't officially announced their starter for Friday's matchup, Tarasov would make sense to tend the twine, as Elvis Merzlikins was between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Panthers. Tarasov has made three starts since the 4 Nations break, going 2-1-0 with a 2.68 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
