2025 Fantasy Outlook
It would be unfair to judge Primeau for his play behind a rebuilding Montreal team in the last few years, but his 4.69 GAA and .836 save percentage in 11 games in 2024-25 was simply not good enough. Primeau's continued struggles led to Jakub Dobes filling the backup role over the last four months of the season. There's still a little optimism that Primeau can become an NHL regular -- just look at his 21-2-2 record, 1.96 GAA and .927 save percentage over 26 AHL games. He'll need a good summer and a strong training camp to regain his spot as an NHL backup, but if he can do it, he'll likely benefit from playing for the Canadiens, who are poised to be on the rise in the coming years. Reclaimed off waivers
Carolina has reclaimed Primeau off waivers from Toronto on Saturday, per Chris Johnston of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Primeau will report AHL Chicago. The Maple Leafs claimed Primeau off waivers from Carolina on Oct. 6, and he went on to post a 2-1-0 record, 4.31 GAA and .838 save percentage across three appearances with Toronto. Carolina acquired Primeau from Montreal in the offseason and signed him to a one-year contract to develop in the minors. He will finally end up there after struggling as a fill-in option for Joseph Woll (personal) with the Maple Leafs.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2020
Primeau appeared in a career-high 23 contests last campaign, registering a mark of 8-9-4 with two shutouts, a 2.99 GAA and a .910 save percentage. The Canadiens didn't want to risk losing him on waivers, so he remained on the roster behind Sam Montembeault and Jake Allen. Primeau will see more playing time in 2024-25 after the Canadiens traded Allen to New Jersey in March. The 25-year-old Primeau flashed some potential in 2023-24, but his fantasy value remains limited for the upcoming campaign. However, he could make for a decent option for spot starts in favorable matchups.

ANALYSIS
Primeau will serve as the backup to Anthony Stolarz in Monday's home contest versus the Red Wings before taking the second game of the Maple Leafs' back-to-back. It will be a good audition for Primeau, as he figures to be back on the waiver wire once Joseph Woll rejoins the team from his personal leave of absence.
