2024 Fantasy Outlook
Chosen with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Chicago naturally has big hopes for Levshunov, but will he jump immediately into the top league? At the very least, Levshunov has decided to give it a shot after signing an entry-level contract with Chicago over the summer, ending his tenure with Michigan State University following a freshman campaign in which he recorded nine goals, 35 points and 44 PIM in 38 contests. Even at the age of 18, Levshunov wouldn't look out of place in the NHL given his size and strength. His skill level at both ends of the ice also provides plenty of cause for excitement. Still, Chicago might opt to be careful with his development by having him start in the AHL, especially because the Blackhawks already have a reasonably functional defensive corps going into the campaign. It would not be surprising, though, to see him make his NHL debut this season, even if he doesn't make the squad out of training camp. In the long run, he's got the potential to be a high-end No. 1 defenseman who features heavily on the power play. Read Past Outlooks

September 11, 2024
Levshunov sustained a foot injury that will sideline him for the Blackhawks' prospect tournament, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Levshunov's injury could impact his ability to make the 23-man roster for Opening Night versus Utah on Oct. 8. With Michigan State last year, the 18-year-old blueliner garnered nine goals and 26 assists in 38 outings. Even if Levshunov makes the team out of training camp, he may still need time in the minors during parts of the 2024-25 campaign.

Levshunov and the Blackhawks continue to discuss whether the defenseman should turn pro or return to Michigan State next season, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Even if Levshunov does make the jump to the professional ranks, it is not expected to be with the Blackhawks. Instead, the team would have him report to AHL Rockford at the onset in order to help with the adjustment. Selected by the organization with the second-overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the 18-year-old Russian racked up nine goals and 26 helpers in 38 games for the Spartans last year and would be a lock for their top pairing and No. 1 power-play unit if he returns to school.
