Alexandre Texier

Alexandre Texier

26-Year-Old CenterC
Montreal Canadiens
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Texier set career highs in 2023-24 with 12 goals and 30 points in 78 outings with the Blue Jackets, but a combination of injury, illness and some time as a healthy scratch limited Texier to only 30 regular-season games with St. Louis last campaign, resulting in him recording just six goals, 11 points, 10 PIM, 50 shots, 20 hits and 11 blocks. Under ideal circumstances, he can get back to that 30-point mark in his age-26 season, but the opportunity for him to play enough to do that might not exist with the Blues. You should consequently pencil him in for 10-20 points. Read Past Outlooks

First helper with new team

Texier logged an assist in Friday's 4-1 win over the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Texier was waived unconditionally by the Blues last Saturday and linked up with the Canadiens on a one-year deal a day later. This was his Montreal debut, and he picked up a helper in 13:41 of ice time. The 26-year-old has struggled in recent years to establish himself as a full-time NHL option -- he's played in more than 50 games just once in his first six campaigns. He's earned two helpers, eight shots on net and 10 hits over nine outings this season, but fantasy managers can afford to wait and see if he'll be a good fit for the Canadiens.

Texier returned to the NHL last season after a year in Switzerland, and he was finally able to stay healthy, producing 12 goals and 18 assists across 78 games. The 25-year-old now gets a fresh start in St. Louis with a two-year, $4.2 million contract where he'll likely slot in as a winger, although his ability to play center makes him versatile and should keep him in the middle six. However, he'll mostly play on the third line, limiting his fantasy upside outside of deeper formats. Dynasty managers should keep tabs on his progress considering his youth.
Texier requested and was granted a leave of absence from the Blue Jackets in the summer of 2022 and spent last year playing in Switzerland, where he was very good (13 goals, 35 points in 46 games). Texier has already announced his intention to return to Columbus for the upcoming season, where he should be in line for a role as a bottom-six regular for the club. Texier is just 24 years of age and has shown flashes in the past, so he's definitely worth monitoring, but that's about as far as it goes from a fantasy standpoint.
Texier has been talked about as a potential breakout candidate for a couple seasons, but nothing has materialized to date. He has just 10 goals and 28 points in 85 games over that period, including just one point with the man advantage. Any potential upside Texier still has is the direct result of the fact he will turn just 22 years of age prior to the start of the 2021-22 campaign. He should have a meaningful role on what will be a thin Columbus roster, but taking a player with no history of production on a middling club is a recipe for fantasy disaster.
A back injury suffered in the last game of 2019 cost him significant playing time, but before he got hurt Texier was teasing the talent that made him a second-round pick in 2017. The 21-year-old's speed and puck handling puts plenty of pressure on the opposition defense, and while he still needs to bulk up, he doesn't seem to shy away from physical play. The offseason additions of Max Domi, Mikko Koivu and Mikhail Grigorenko could cement Texier's spot on a wing, but that likely gives him a clearer path to a top-six role, especially with Gustav Nyquist set to miss the first few months of the campaign. He's likely not on the fantasy radar yet in most formats, but Texier could supply the Columbus offense with some much-needed skill this season.
A second-round pick in 2017, Texier made his NHL debut at the end of last season as a teenager and then stayed in the lineup through the playoffs, capping his efforts with a two-goal performance in the series-clinching win over the Lightning. Blazingly fast and possessing soft hands and dazzling puck-handling skills, Texier still needs to bulk up and he has limited experience against top-end opponents, but with the team looking to inject more skill up front following the offseason departures of Artemi Panarin and others, a strong showing in training camp could win him a regular shift in Columbus as a 19-year-old.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing plenty of interest
CFree Agent
November 22, 2025
Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports Saturday that nine NHL clubs have shown interest in signing Texier, but it's down to two Eastern Conference teams that the forward and his agent, Dan Milstein, are deciding on.
ANALYSIS
Texier was placed on unconditional waivers by the Blues on Saturday for the purpose of terminating his contract. Provided that he clears waivers, he will be an unrestricted free agent. The 26-year-old has failed to play regularly since being drafted in the second round in 2017, so he likely wouldn't play a significant role when he links up with a new club. His career high in points is 30, which he set in 2023-24 across 78 games with Columbus.
