Colsaerts finished in second place just one behind winner Tyrell Hatton aafter shooting a two-under 70 in the final round.
ANALYSIS
Colsaerts came into the final round one behind Hatton and both shot the same score on Sunday, but there was certainly much more to it than that. After firing three straight 65's on the trio of courses this week, Colsaerts returned to The Old Course on Sunday where he picked up right birdies on three of the first seven holes. He would lose ground with a pair of bogeys on the two of the next six holes, but surged into a share of the lead with a birdie on 15 combined with Hatton making double-bogey on the par-4 13th and bogey on the par-5 14th. After a drive right in front of the green on the famed par-4 18th, Colsaerts with chip it up to eight feet, but was unable to convert the birdie putt. Hatton on the other hand hit it to four feet and poured it in to reclaim the one-shot advantage and take the win. Colsaerts bid for a fourth DP World Tour win will have to wait. He will tee it up next week at the FedEx Open de France.

Colsaerts entered the 2013 with high expectations, and even though he finished inside the top-125, his season has to be considered a disappointment. Colsaerts has the game to double or even triple his 2013 earnings, but there's the question of acclimation. Is he comfortable playing a full schedule on the PGA Tour? Maybe not, but perhaps he learned something from his struggles last year and he'll make some adjustments in 2014. If that happens he becomes a solid option in salary cap leagues. In drafts he should go in the 70-80 range.
Colsaerts came on strong at the end of the 2012 season and starting in 2013, he'll be a full-time member, so the sky is the limit. Colsaerts certainly isn't the most well-known European player out there, but he's one of the most talented. His nine starts last year will help him as he adjusts to life on the PGA TOUR. Expect solid numbers from Colsaerts this year. Look for him in the seventh or eighth round in draft leagues.
