2025 Fantasy Outlook
2024 was a pretty miserable year for NeSmith who missed 18 cuts and had just three top-25 finishes. He ranked outside the top-150 on Tour in both SG: Total and adjusted scoring average. NeSmith lost strokes across the board, including on approach in what has usually been the hallmark of his game. He'll be playing off conditional status going into 2025, so the 31-year-old doesn't really have any upside in salary cap formats. Read Past Outlooks
Loses steam over weekend
July 28, 2024
NeSmith settled for a share of ninth place at the 3M Open after shooting a one-under 70 in the final round.
ANALYSIS
NeSmith Got off to a terrific start to the tournament going 68-64, but was unable to find that same form over the weekend going 70-70 to fall back to T9. He actually needed to make an eagle on the par-5 18th to stay inside the top-10. It mostly came down to the putter on the weekend for NeSmith. Regardless, this finish still does move him up to 118th in the FedExCup standings and another solid showing at the Wyndham Championship will put him in good position to keep his card for 2025.

NeSmith is entering his fifth season on Tour after posting four top-10s last season, although three of those came in the fall of 2022 and the other came in a team event. Previously one of the better iron players on Tour, he's not as strong in that area as he once was and the lack of distance and below average short game is starting to rear its ugly head. He projects to be near the bubble of keeping his card, and fantasy players are better off looking elsewhere due to his lack of upside potential at this point in his career.
NeSmith quietly had his best season on Tour, as the third-year player ranked 62nd in strokes-gained total and made a career-high 71 percent of cuts. He's consistently proven himself as a strong iron player (top-30 in strokes-gained approach every season) but has been held back by a below average short-game. He'll need to improve that area to turn his made cuts into more top-10 results.
NeSmith looked like he was in for a solid season in 2020-21 after a strong fall season and three top-20s over the West Coast swing, but his momentum quickly curtailed. His final nine events included six missed cuts and zero top-25 finishes. His iron play has been stellar during his two seasons on tour (top 25 in strokes-gained approach each season), but he's going to need to improve on and around-the-green to find more consistent results.
NeSmith was the No. 5 rookie on Tour last season. He was faring well until the break from play in March and perhaps with some more consistency, NeSmith can show what he's capable of. Look for NeSmith to find a little more consistency this season and perhaps a couple top-10s.
A pair of 63s to open the Ellie Mae Classic in early August foreshadowed what was to come for NeSmith during the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, as he went on to fire a seven-under 64 during the final round of the Albertsons Boise Open and win the event by one stroke while locking up a PGA Tour card for the first time. NeSmith has made five career starts at the PGA Tour level, though he's missed the cut in each attempt and was unable to break 70 in all 10 rounds. He led the entire KFT in GIR percentage throughout the 2019 season, however, and NeSmith also ranked 11th in total driving.
