Kevin Tway

Tway is the beneficiary of a busy schedule and a clutch performance, but he hasn’t been playing particularly well otherwise. He earned exempt status for the 2022 season with a victory at the 2018 Safeway Open and made the most of his opportunity by finishing inside the top 150. He only made 43 percent of his cuts on the year but crucially recorded a runner-up finish at the Houston Open back in November of 2021. It wouldn’t be terribly surprising if his name weren’t within the top 150 next year.

Tway's tie for 14th at the Rocket Mortgage was his best showing last season and one of only two top-25s in 24 starts. He missed 14 cuts. He's secure for one more season thanks to winning the 2018 Safeway Open.

Entering this past season, it looked like Tway was on the right path as he'd posted three consecutive seasons in the top 100 on the FedEx Cup points list, but all of that momentum came to halt this past season. Tway missed the cut in 12 of his 19 starts and failed to card even a single top-25. That's the bad news, but the good news is, his cap number is so low that he's impossible to pass on in a salary cap format. As such, it would be wise to find space for Tway on your salary cap team this season.

Tway started last season on a high note as he won the first event on the fall schedule. He played well throughout fall, but when the calendar turned to 2019, his game went south in a hurry. He recovered a little by the end of the season, but he never showed that fall form again. Regardless, it was a nice season for Tway as he picked up his first PGA Tour win and topped $2 million for the first time. Tway should be a productive player this seaso, but it's hard to imagine him going much better than he did last season. As such, he's not a good salary cap option this season, but he holds plenty of value in other formats.

Tway finished 85th on the FedEx points list last season, which was down 13 spots from the previous season, but the two seasons were pretty similar. Tway's earnings were also very similar from year to year, finishing right about $1.4 million each season. There are any number of ways to get to a number like that, but Tway got there by grinding it out every week. Two seasons ago, Tway had two top-3s, but last season, he had no such luck. He did, however, tee it up 31 times and he made the cut in 24 starts. Most promising, however, was the way that Tway finished last season. Tway made the cut in 12 of his final 13 starts last season and finished inside the top 25 in half of those starts. He also carded three top-10s in that span. Tway appears to be on the way up and as such, makes for a solid salary cap selection this season.

Tway's first go-round on the PGA Tour in 2014 was a complete disaster as he only earned about $167k and recorded no top-25s in 23 starts. His next try, last season, was much better, although it didn't appear as though he had improved much early in the season. Luckily for Tway, he got hot at the end of April and earned there consecutive top-5s, which pretty much made his season. He didn't accomplish much the rest of the season, but that just means there's room for improvement. Tway has the look of a guy who took a while to figure things out and is now ready to move forward, rather than a guy who is out of his league and happened to get lucky this past season.

Tway tied for third in a Web.com playoff event to secure his PGA Tour card. It's going to be hard to replicate that this season, as he's had zero top-25s in 32 career PGA starts. His claim to fame is being the son of 1986 PGA champion Bob Tway, and that's not likely to change this season.
