2025 Fantasy Outlook
Riley came out of the gates hot during his rookie season in 2022. He posted six top-10s on his way to over $3 million in earnings. He finished that season inside the top-30 and the future appeared to be very bright. The past couple years haven't quite panned out like many had thought, however, as he's regressed in each of the past two seasons. The odd thing is, he actually picked up his first PGA Tour win this past season, but his overall numbers were well off the pace he'd set in 2022. The reason was, after his win in May, his game fell off considerably. There was a reason for that, however, as he was dealing with the loss of his friend Grayson Murray and the impending surgery of his sister to remove a brain tumor. It's completely understandable that after securing a win and his card for 2025, that he'd let golf slip to the side for a while. It's always risky to assume a golfer will get back to who he was before trauma, but Riley had a lot going for him in 2022 and 2023. In this case, an assumption that he gets back to something between his level in 2024 and his rookie year seems pretty safe. Read Past Outlooks
Rebounds from triple-bogey on Sunday
May 18, 2025
Riley finished in a share of second place following a one-over 72 in the final round of the PGA Championship.
ANALYSIS
Riley briefly moved into solo second place and within four shots of Scottie Scheffler after holing out for birdie on the par-4 5th. That was quickly erased with a bogey on the 6th hole followed by an ugly triple-bogey on the par-5 7th hole. To Riley's credit he did not quit and kept fighting. He would make three more birdies coming home and no bogeys to secure a very impressive T2 finish, easily his best finish in a major (T13 at 2022 PGA). This will assure him of a spot in The Masters next year and move him all the way up to 42nd in the FedExCup standings. Riley will be defending his title at the Charles Schwab Challenge next week.

2020
Riley hit the ground running in his rookie season of 2021-2022, but he stumbled a bit this past season. Davis had the same amount of top-3s (1) as the previous season, but his top-10s dropped from six to two. The results didn't affect his earnings that much due to an overall increase in purses, but it's clear that Riley played much better two seasons ago vs. this past season. That provides an opportunity in salary cap leagues however as his number is simply too low this season. Riley is just 26 and it's not uncommon to see a young golfer stumble after having some early success. Riley should bounce back this season and as such, he makes for a solid salary cap pick this season.
Riley really became a DFS darling over the spring months after a slow start to his rookie season. After falling in a playoff at the Valspar Championship to Sam Burns, Riley had a stretch of six straight finishes of T13-or-better. He would only post one top-25 over his final seven starts, however, and fall just outside that Top-30 that qualify for East Lake. Really the only weakness here appears to be short game, as he ranked outside the top-115 in SG: Around-the-Green and scrambling. If he cleans that up a bit, Riley has the potential to take off as a sophomore because he's long, a solid iron player, and a stout putter who ranked inside the top-15 in birdie average.
Riley is a former junior golf prodigy, who won four consecutive state titles in Mississippi before attending the University of Alabama where he became a two-time All-American. He recorded just one top-10 in 18 starts during his first year on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019, but Riley picked up a pair of victories in 2020-21 at the Panama Championship and the TPC San Antonio Championship at the Oaks. Riley has slipped outside the top 300 in the Official World Golf Ranking, however, failing to notch a top-10 finish since May's AdventHealth Championship.
It didn't take much time for the three-time collegiate All-American from the University of Alabama to outgrow the Korn Ferry Tour as he notched a pair of wins at the Panama Championship and TPC San Antonio Championship in 2020. The 23-year-old tallied five top-10s and nine top-25s in 16 events to finish second on the KFT's points list at the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. Riley also made a pair of cuts at the PGA Tour level during the fall series, placing 76th at the RSM Classic and T39 at the Sanderson Farms Championship. On the Korn Ferry Tour, he was second in birdie average and first in the all-around ranking.
