ANALYSIS
Gribble will have been a late addition to a PGA tournament twice in July. The first was the John Deere Classic, during which he logged a score of 7 across two rounds. Relatively speaking, Gribble performed much better with a score of -16 during the ISCO Championship.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2017
2016
Gribble had a horrendous season, missing the cut in 15-of-25 events with zero top-25s. A look at the previous season shows he wasn't much better - outside of winning the Sanderson Farms. Almost $800,000 of his roughly $1.3 million was earned in winning that opposite-field event, which is starting to look every bit as much of an outlier as Derek Ernst's infamous win in the 2013 Wells Fargo. It sure seems as if Gribble will need to head to the Web.com Tour Finals next season to regain his PGA Tour card for 2019-2020 -- that's if he even qualifies. He'd have to finish inside the top-200 in the FedEx Cup point standings in 2018-19, and he was 182nd in the 2017-18 season. (Gribble will always be able to play under Past Champions status, but that is near the bottom of the priority list.)
There is generally a Cody Gribble in every rookie class. He's the guy that comes out on fire in the fall, picks up a win and then disappears for the majority of the spring/summer schedule. Gribble recorded a top-10 the week prior to his win during the fall, but he failed to grab another top-10 the rest of the season. For the season, he only recorded four top-25s, and that's including the win and the top-10 in the fall. It's too early to tell if Gribble played above his talent when he won in the fall or if got complacent after winning, but when those are the two options, it doesn't make for a good salary cap situation.
Gribble tied for second early in the Web.com Tour season at the United Leasing & Finance Championship but struggled throughout, missing a whopping 15 cuts in 24 starts. But he tied for fifth at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship and with the playoffs shortened to three events it was good enough for a PGA Tour card, even after missing the cut in the first two playoff events. That's a huge red flag for fantasy players: a talented golfer who didn't play well and basically got a card on one good finish. Look for any sign of strong, consistent finishes before starting or playing him regularly.
