Wirfs and the Buccaneers agreed Thursday on a five-year, $140.63 million contract extension, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wirfs' extension includes $88.24 million guaranteed, the most for an offensive tackle in NFL history. The 25-year-old has certainly proven to be one of the league's top left tackles over his first four NFL seasons, earning three Pro Bowl nods as well as first- and second-team All-Pro selections in 2021 and 2022. Wirfs had been set to play the 2024 season under the $18.24 million fifth-year option on his rookie deal, but the long-term deal now keeps him on Tampa Bay's books through the 2029 campaign.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Wirfs has already validated his selection as the 13th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft with his stellar play at right tackle, earning two Pro Bowl selections and one All-Pro nod as well over his first three seasons. The Iowa product is now taking his talents to the opposite side of the line at left tackle, where he'll have the all-important role of protecting his quarterback's blind side.

Snags sought-after extension
OTTampa Bay Buccaneers
August 1, 2024
Wirfs and the Buccaneers came to agreement on a five-year, $140 million extension Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal contains more than $88 million guaranteed and locks Wirfs, a one-time All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler, in with the Buccaneers for what should be the prime years of his career. The 2020 first-round pick was set to play out the 2024 season on his fifth-year option had a deal not been reached, and now that it has, Wirfs will be able to participate in padded practices for the first time in training camp.
