2024 Fantasy Outlook
McKitty was a third-round draft pick in 2021, but he never really saw much opportunity as a pass catcher with the Chargers and concluded last season as a practice squad member of the Bills. For now, McKitty slots in behind Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox and Quintin Morris, but if injuries hit the top trio, the 6-4, 246-pounder could carve out a depth role after not drawing any regular-season targets in 2023. McKitty was waived by the Bills on Tuesday, Alec White of the team's official website reports.
ANALYSIS
McKitty signed a reserve/future contract with Buffalo in January, reeling in a 20-yard pass on his only target in the preseason. If the tight end clears waivers, he could join the Bills' practice squad ahead of the 2024 campaign.

The 2021 third-rounder reprised his role as a blocking specialist in 2022, tallying 518 offensive snaps, but just 10 receptions on 18 targets for 72 yards. McKitty is expected to compete with Donald Parham for the Chargers' No. 2 TE role behind Gerald Everett, but either way McKitty figures to make most of his impact this coming season as a blocker, which limits his fantasy upside.
McKitty was essentially redshirted his rookie season, as the 2021 third-rounder didn't see action until Week 7 and played just over 200 offensive snaps total. Essentially a blocking specialist, the Chargers will have plenty of sub-packages for the 6-4, 246-pounder, but it's hard to imagine McKitty pushing out offseason addition Gerald Everett or third-year backup Donald Parham (who showed improvement last season) for significant passing targets.
An underutilized pass catcher after transferring from Florida State to Georgia last year, McKitty figures to fill an inline blocking role as a rookie. The 2021 third-round pick will need to refine his route running in order to earn snaps. At least early on this season, Jared Cook and Donald Parham profile as the team's top receiving threats from the tight end position.
