Fills in following DeVito exit
QBNew York Giants
December 15, 2024
Boyle entered Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Ravens on Sunday with 27 seconds remaining in the second quarter for Tommy DeVito (concussion) and completed 12 of 24 passes for 123 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Boyle took a knee on his first play from scrimmage to end the first half and then played the entirety of the last two quarters. Considering the circumstances, Boyle was serviceable, throwing a 23-yard touchdown pass to Malik Nabers in the fourth quarter along the way. The journeyman signal-caller could conceivably be called on to start a Week 16 road matchup against the Falcons if both DeVito and Drew Lock (heel) are unavailable.

Boyle was brought over to help teach Nathaniel Hackett's offense to the Jets, but Aaron Rodgers' former backup in Green Bay is unlikely to see the field at all in 2023, and Boyle's even less likely to find success if he plays. He's winless in three NFL starts and has a career 3:8 TD:INT. Given Boyle's on-field resume, if Rodgers and Zach Wilson get hurt, the Jets may opt for outside help under center rather than give Boyle an extended look.
Boyle is back with Detroit on another one-year deal after serving as Detroit's backup quarterback in 2021. While he didn't fare particularly well in his Lions preseason debut nor his three starts while filling in for Jared Goff, Boyle was hamstrung in a couple of those by the absences of T.J. Hockenson and/or D'Andre Swift, not to mention the fact that he was working with possibly the worst receiving corps in the league. With a revamped group of wide receivers and mostly everyone back to full health, Boyle would have been better equipped in Year 2 if called upon, but a disappointing preseason was followed by the Lions cutting him in favor of David Blough, who now will serve as the No. 2 QB to Goff.
Had the Packers known that Aaron Rodgers would threaten a holdout, it seems unlikely that Boyle would have been allowed to leave Green Bay. Alas, the Packers let Boyle walk, and Detroit subsequently made him the 10th-highest paid backup quarterback in the NFL. However, despite Jared Goff coming off thumb surgery, the move isn't one that will allow Boyle to compete for a starting role. While Boyle may find that opportunity again next offseason when he hits the open market, an injury to Goff is likely his only path to playing time in 2021.
Boyle saw his first NFL action in 2019, taking the field on three separate occasions, albeit all in garbage time. His chances of sticking around in Green Bay for another year will depend on whether the team keeps three quarterbacks, as Aaron Rodgers and first-rounder Jordan Love are part of the same roster.
Boyle signed with the Packers during the offseason as an undrafted free agent and slotted in as the team's fourth quarterback. He is a long shot to break camp with the team, but chances are he sticks around on the practice squad.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could start with DeVito, Lock hurt
QBNew York Giants
December 15, 2024
Boyle has a chance to start against the Falcons in Week 16, as Tommy DeVito suffered a concussion in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Ravens, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Boyle replaced DeVito late in the first half against Baltimore and subsequently threw for 123 yards, one touchdown and one interception. DeVito got the start because Drew Lock has been wearing a walking boot as he recovers from a heel injury. If neither Lock nor DeVito is healthy enough to start against the Falcons, Boyle would be the next man up. Boyle has a 0-5 career record as a starter, and his team has lost all 11 games in which Boyle has thrown a pass in his career.
