Leonard has had a pair of back surgeries since June of 2022, and his potential to produce in 2023 depends entirely on his health. He tried valiantly to fight through pain - he discussed having no feeling down the left side of his body - for three games last season but ultimately shut down things down in an effort to return to 100 percent. Heading into training camp, his availability remains ambiguous. Leonard was unable to practice at all during offseason activities, and owner Jim Irsay recently said during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show only that Leonard was making progress. If, in what would be a surprising outcome, he proves to be fully healthy, Leonard has an excellent track record of having a nose for the ballcarrier, tallying at least 120 tackles in his first four seasons in the league.

Retiring as member of Colts
Leonard, who last played in the NFL for the Eagles in 2023, announced his retirement as a member of the Colts on Wednesday and will be honored at halftime of Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Raiders, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A three-time Pro Bowler and one of the most prolific tacklers in the league during his prime, Leonard ultimately saw his career cut short by injury. He started his NFL tenure off with a bang by recording 163 tackles during his rookie 2018 campaign -- a figure that would ultimately prove to be a career high -- and he totaled 538 stops, including 15.0 sacks, 30 defensed passes, including 11 interceptions, 17 forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries during his first four campaigns, when he played in 58 of a possible 65 regular-season games. However, Leonard would go on to play in just 17 games in the next two seasons due to back issues before sitting out all of 2024.
