While Ross hung around with the Chiefs during the 2023 season, he didn't carve out a significant role on offense, finishing the year with just six grabs for 53 yards on 11 targets. Kansas City's front office upgraded the position this offseason, acquiring Marquise Brown through free agency and Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The pickups sink returning wideouts Ross, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson and Kadarius Toney on the depth chart. Ross signed with Kansas City's practice squad Wednesday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.

Ross was waived by the Chiefs on Tuesday but went unclaimed, giving Kansas City the opportunity to keep the wide receiver in the organization as a member of the practice squad. Kansas City has seven wide receivers on its 53-man roster, so it may take a couple of injuries for Ross to earn a chance at a promotion after he dressed for 10 regular-season games with Kansas City as a rookie in 2023.

Ross signed with the Chiefs last spring as an undrafted free agent, but spent his entire rookie campaign in rehab mode after undergoing surgery to repair a nagging foot injury. Now that the 23-year-old has had time to move past the issue, Ross appears poised to compete for a role in a Kansas City wideout corps that also includes Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Richie James and Justin Watson. At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Ross brings good size to the mix, but the Clemson product will need to prove his health in the coming months in order to secure a roster spot ahead of the 2023 season.
