Harrison Butker

29-Year-Old KickerK
Kansas City Chiefs
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Butker ranks second to only Justin Tucker in career FG percentage (89.1) and has ranked Top 10 at his position in fantasy scoring five times in seven pro seasons. Butker's list of clutch kicks in the playoffs puts him in Adam Vinatieri range, and his consistent work in the regular season includes a 70 percent conversion rate on tries of 50-plus yards. The Chiefs tend to be good at converting scoring chances into TDs rather than field goals, but that wasn't the case in 2023 (19th in red-zone TD rate) and coach Andy Reid has never been particularly aggressive with his fourth-down and two-point decisions. In other words, Butker is the safest kicker choice after Tucker, with not much gap between the two. Read Past Outlooks

Misses first FGA of the season
KKansas City Chiefs
September 30, 2024
Butker made both of his extra-point tries but missed one of two field-goal attempts in Sunday's 17-10 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Butker's miss was a 65-yard attempt that came up short just before halftime, a kick that would have tied the game at 10-10 had it been successful. However, he was good from 37 yards out in the third quarter, bringing him to 8-for-9 on FGAs this season.

An ankle injury cost Butker four games last season and perhaps contributed to a career-low 75 percent conversion rate on field goals, but he's back near the top of the kicker rankings after a strong finish to the year capped by a near-perfect postseason (6 of 7 on FGs, 10 of 10 on PATs). He's fourth on the all-time FG percentage list (88.2) even after the down year, and perhaps more important is still attached to Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce ... plus an excellent offensive line. If nothing else, Butker should be among the league leaders in PATs, and he's already shown range to 62 yards on the rare occasions when the Chiefs need heroics from their placekicker.
Butker leads the NFL in PATs over the last four years, but his field-goal numbers have dipped a bit with the Chiefs becoming more aggressive on fourth down. The sixth-year pro has converted at least 88.9 percent of his field-goal attempts every season, and last year he had a career-high seven makes from 50-plus yards. It could actually work in Butker's favor if the offense takes a slight step back without WR Tyreek Hill.
Butker slid to ninth in kicker fantasy scoring last season, down from third and first in the first two years of the Patrick Mahomes era. He missed six PATs but only two field goals, with his dip in production caused by reduced opportunity rather than poor performance. Part of the issue was Butker's team scoring so many long TDs, but that's a minor hassle compared to all the benefits of playing on a team with Mahomes.
No. 2 on the all-time FG accuracy list (89.7 percent) is also No. 2 in our rankings. A dominant Chiefs offense allowed Butker to lead the league in PATs in 2018 and field goals made in 2019. The composition of his production might have been different, but the result was back-to-back top-3 fantasy finishes. Expect more of the same as long as Patrick Mahomes stays healthy.
Butker predictably lost some of his ridiculous FG volume from 2017, making up for it with the league lead in PATs. He now figures to bounce back the other way, as even Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes are unlikely to sustain last year's 73.1 percent red-zone TD rate (third highest in the NFL since 2015). Regardless of the FG/PAT split, Butker is a good kicker with strong job security in a great offense.
Selected by Carolina at the end of last year's draft, Butker lost a camp battle to Graham Gano, then tied for sixth place on the NFL's single-season FGs list after making his pro debut in Week 4 for the Chiefs. It was the perfect storm of accurate kicking combined with an offense that ranked fifth in yards but 29th in red-zone TD percentage. Regression is almost inevitable, but the Chiefs still figure to move the ball.
Drafted in the seventh round this year, Butker is being brought in to compete with kicker Graham Gano. The veteran has been with the Panthers since 2012, but he's coming off heel surgery this offseason, which followed the only campaign in which he converted under 80 percent of Carolina's field-goal attempts. Gano's misses included a few crucial kicks, so Butker could take advantage of his recent problems to make the team during training camp.

Focusing on better sleep
KKansas City Chiefs
May 17, 2023
Butker said he has focused on bettering his sleep quality to help improve his kicking, Dan Pompei of The Athletic reports. "If I want to be the best kicker in the world, then sleep is important," Butker told Pompei. "I'm trying to find the smallest things that make a difference."
ANALYSIS
After learning that 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey aims for nine hours of sleep every night, Butker has tried to do him one better. Kansas City's kicker tries to sleep about 10 hours per night and uses an Oura ring to monitor sleep quality.
