2025 Fantasy Outlook
McPherson signed a three-year extension in Aug. 2024, but he still hasn't lived up to the potential of an excellent 2021 rookie season. Last year in particular didn't go well, with McPherson making a career-low 72.7 percent of field-goal attempts prior to missing the final five weeks with a groin injury. His career field-goal rate is down to 81.7 percent, and he's averaged just 5.0 makes from 50-plus yards over the past three seasons, after going 9-of-11 there during his 2021 rookie campaign. There's still upside for fantasy, given his leg strength and the quality of Cincinnati's offensive personnel, but there's also now a downside scenario in which McPherson continues to struggle and loses his job. Going back to original technique
McPherson is reverting back to the original kicking technique that he employed in 2021-22 after switching the last two years, a change that drew mixed results, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. He hasn't yet missed a kick in camp.
ANALYSIS
McPherson initially employed a gentle draw, but switched to a kick that in theory flew straighter, taking the wind out of the equation more. But the new technique robbed him of a little distance, and last season the control eluded him, too, leading to six missed kicks, including two critical misses in a loss to the Chargers.

2021
While he hasn't quite matched the heights of his fantastic 2021 rookie season and subsequent playoff run, McPherson re-established himself as one of the league's best kickers in 2023 by making all of his kicks inside 50 yards (including PATs) and going 7-for-12 from 50-plus. His career FG percentage (83.9) looks mediocre, but it's actually quite good once you realize he's attempted 58 field goals of 40-plus yards (including 28 of 50-plus) and only 35 of less than 40. He's also gone 19-for-19 in the playoffs, albeit with 14 of those coming inside the 40-yard range. McPherson has yet to finish higher than eighth among kickers in fantasy scoring, but it's probably just a matter of time given his real-life success and the talent Cincinnati has on offense.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Receives vote of confidence
Coach Zac Taylor and Ja'Marr Chase both showed public support for McPherson on Monday, Jay Morrison of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McPherson received an extension from the Bengals this summer, but he's struggled with accuracy by making only 71 percent of his field-goal attempts this season. His misses have also been untimely, highlighted by an attempt in overtime of a Week 5 loss to the Ravens as well as a pair of miscues in the final eight minutes of Cincinnati's Week 11 loss to the Chargers. Despite McPherson's struggles, there is no indication that the Bengals are considering a change at the position.
