Yoanys Quiala
Joins Guardians
Quiala and the Guardians agreed to a contract Thursday, CPBLStats.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cuban-born right-hander becomes the second foreign pitcher to join the Guardians in less than a month after Fubon agreed to a deal with ex-MLB pitcher Manny Banuelos in late June. Quiala spent parts of six seasons in minor-league baseball in North America, topping out at the Triple-A level with the Giants' affiliate at Sacramento in 2019. Over his 19 starts with Sacramento, Quiala posted an ugly 6.68 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 105 innings, but he showed an ability to make bats miss with 98 strikeouts. Once he arrives in Taiwan and completes a mandatory 14-day quarantine, Quiala will likely claim a spot in the Fubon rotation. Expect him to make his team debut at some point in mid-to-late August.
