Going pro, opts out of bowl
Not Injury Related
December 10, 2021
Goodson announced Friday via his personal Twitter account that he will declare for the 2022 NFL Draft and won't play in Iowa's Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl matchup with Kentucky.
ANALYSIS
Goodson had a productive junior campaign for Iowa in 2021, totaling 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns on a 4.5 YPC while catching 31 passes for 247 yards and another score. He's opted to start preparing for the NFL draft rather than risk an injury in the bowl game. Ivory Kelly-Martin and Gavin Williams are the likely candidates to lead the Hawkeyes' backfield versus Kentucky.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
After seeing his role grow down the stretch of the 2019 season, Goodson seized firm control of the top job last year. His 49 percent carry share nearly doubled Mekhi Sargent, his closest competition in the backfield. Goodson finished his second campaign in Iowa City averaging 17.4 carries and 95.3 rushing yards per contest while notching seven scores in eight games. He’s also sufficient as a receiver, allowing him to stay on the field for all three downs. With Sargent gone, Ivory Kelly-Martin is next in line behind Goodson, who could be in line for an even larger share this season.
Goodson emerged from the heap of unproven Iowa lead backs last season to earn the moniker, finishing out the year with a team-high 134 carries for 638 yards and five touchdowns, including one in each of the last four games. With Nate Stanley gone to graduation, Goodson and the running room may be in for an expanded workload in 2020. He will still need to fend off Mekhi Sargent and Ivory Kelly-Martin, but Goods clearly established himself as the lead back down the stretch, accounting for 42 percent or more of the team’s carries in each of the last four games after failing to top 30 percent in any game prior. It wouldn't be surprising if that number inflates well beyond that late-season minimum this season.
