2023 Fantasy Outlook
The state of the tight end position across college football drops off dramatically rather quickly, which may put Nicky Dalmolin onto some draft radars, thanks to the four touchdowns he caught last season. Unfortunately, that’s about all he did, as he finished with just 21 catches on 30 targets and 170 yards. The positive can say he did miss Duke’s final three games. The negative can look at his game logs and see no games with more than three catches or 38 yards, making him heavily touchdown dependent for any return on even a small investment. Duke returns the virtually their entire offense; QB Riley Leonard, their top three running backs and three of their top four receivers, making it difficult to project Dalmolin into a larger role. Chasing touchdowns isn’t a prudent strategy, but there is reason to believe Dalmolin can replicate his scoring, as the Blue Devils receivers don’t have a history of scoring frequently, and the program, regardless of coaching staff, has favored tight ends inside the 20. Someone has to snag some of Leonard’s likely 20+ touchdown passes. Just be prepared to go with multiple weeks of one fantasy point if Dalmolin is your top option.
