Headed for 2022 NFL Draft
Walker announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he will opt out of playing in the Dec. 30 Peach Bowl game against Pittsburgh and forgo his remaining eligibility at Michigan State in advance of the 2022 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
After arriving in East Lansing as a transfer from Wake Forest in the offseason, Walker proceeded to turn in one of the best seasons by a Big Ten running back in recent memory. He carried 263 times for 1,636 yards and 18 touchdowns and added another score on 13 receptions for 89 yards en route to taking home the Doak Walker Award. Walker's availability for the bowl game had already been in flux while he nursed an ankle injury, but the junior running back's announcement Thursday officially closed the door on him playing against Pittsburgh. Jordon Simmons should be the next man up for carries out of the Spartans backfield.
