Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Jordan Waters will look to at least maintain his 2022 production in his fifth year in Durham. Duke’s backfield, regardless of coaching staff, has historically been a committee approach, and last year was no different, as 424 of the team’s 484 attempts were split between four players. That screams headaches for fantasy managers. Waters’ appeal last year largely came from his eight touchdowns, as he only had four games with 13 or more carries, topping 61 yards only twice. Waters also offers next to nothing in the passing game, snagging just 16 balls in his first extended action. Touchdowns are a challenge to predict or draft upon, but that role does seem secure for the 215 pounder, who has nearly 20 pounds on the more dynamic Jaquez Moore. Given Duke’s history of committee backfields, and the fact that everyone returns from 2022, nothing suggests a breakout is in store for Waters. That likely makes him far more valuable to the Blue Devils than your fantasy roster, but there will be weeks where he pops, making for a decent depth piece or bye-week plug in when needed.
