Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
The loss of quarterback Jordan Rodgers is a bit of concern for Matthews' fantasy value heading into 2013, but there's generally reason to believe he'll remain one of the nation's elite wideouts this year. The Commodores have a decent replacement quarterback in Austyn Carta-Samuels, and it's not as if Rodgers was a particularly talented passer, anyway. Matthews has in any case proven he's one of the best receivers in the country, as he posted 94 catches for 1,323 yards and eight touchdowns despite the fact that Vanderbilt threw fewer passes than all but 22 of the nation's teams.
Matthews was the Commodores’ leading receiver last year, reeling in 41 passes for 778 yards. He averaged an impressive 19 yards per catch and got into the end zone five times, putting together what was pretty easily the best season for a Vanderbilt receiver in 2011. In 2012, the junior resumes that same role as the No. 1 receiver, and his strong finish to the 2011 season makes him a 1,000-yard candidate who should be owned in most or all leagues.
