Leaving for NFL
December 13, 2021
Corbin announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he'll forgo his remaining eligibility at Florida State to enter the 2022 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Corbin thus wraps up a four-year college career that included two-year stops at both Texas A&M and Florida State. After joining the latter program ahead of the 2020 campaign, Corbin enjoyed his best season this past fall as a redshirt junior, carrying 143 times for 887 yards and seven scores to go with 25 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown in 12 games.

Corbin enters his second year as the ‘Noles lead back after transferring from Texas A&M. He put up a decent yet uninspiring 2020 campaign, rushing 81 times for 401 yards and five touchdowns in nine games, with 149 yards and four scores coming in his final two games against North Carolina State and lowly Duke. He added 19 catches, though eight of those came in one game, further showing his inconsistent nature. FSU’s offensive line fully returns, which should help, and there should be improved quarterback play from either UCF transfer Mackenzie Milton or Jordan Travis, the latter of which is a run first option that is reportedly improving as a passer. Despite a 5.0 ypc average, Corbin isn’t a game breaker, with only six carries of 20+ yards. As such, he’ll cede time to Lawrance Toafili, who offers home run hitting speed. Volume should still put Corbin in position for yards, but he seems unlikely to meet lofty standards me came to FSU with.
Corbin remains an unknown commodity that will enter a second season with great promise. The former Texas A&M Aggie, Corbin was expected to take most of Trayveon Williams' 252 carries, 1,524 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. Instead, after a solid opener against Texas State, Corbin suffered a hamstring injury against Clemson and never suited up for the Aggies again. Now in a new home and granted immediate eligibility, Corbin again finds himself as the presumptive replacement for a highly productive rusher, this time likely plug in for Cam Akers and his 231 carries, 1,144 yards and 14 scores. New head coach Mike Norvell has a terrific track record at producing fantasy quality running backs, with four 1,000 yard rushers in his last three years. Assuming Corbin is healthy and emerges as the starter in August, he can return RB1/2 production despite continued line concerns in Tallahassee. He likely needs to drafted as a RB2/3 however, with safer, more proven options available nationally.
Corbin was the primary backup to Trayveon Williams in 2018. Corbin rushed 57 times for 305 yards and one touchdown. Williams, meanwhile, took 252 carries for 1,524 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. Williams was also a dynamic part of the passing game, reeling in 27 balls for 278 yards and another touchdown through the air. With Williams leaving for the NFL, Corbin has the chance for a huge season as the Aggies look to fill that massive void. Jacob Kibodi may also figure into the mix, but Corbin is expected to be the starting running back entering the 2019 campaign.
