Will opt out of 2020 season

August 30, 2020
Chase plans to announce Monday that he will opt out of the 2020 season and begin preparations for the 2021 NFL Draft, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
According to the report, Chase's decision to forgo playing for LSU in 2020 isn't the result of COVID-19-related concerns. Instead, the rising junior was seemingly persuaded to leave school early to avoid a potential injury that could affect his stock in next April's draft. As things currently stand, Chase profiles as a potential top-10 pick and the leading candidate to be the first receiver off the board in the draft following a brilliant sophomore campaign in which he totaled 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. His departure leaves Terrace Marshall as the clear No. 1 wideout in the LSU offense.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2020
2019
Chase was so explosive in 2019, that it is difficult to imagine he could have a better year as a junior. Just a sophomore last season, he set SEC records for receiving yardage (1,780) and touchdown receptions (20). Chase won the Biletnikoff Award as the top wide receiver in the country. He was a Unanimous First-Team All-American. Fellow wideout Justin Jefferson has left for the NFL, but so did his quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Joe Burrow. The development of Myles Brennan under center could go a long way towards determining just how productive Chase is as a junior, but even if Brennan is a step down from Burrow, Chase is simply too talented to be held in check.
Chase came to LSU with high expectations but had only a mediocre freshman campaign overall. He finished 2018 with 23 catches for 313 yards and three touchdowns. Still, he saved his best for last, hauling in six passes for 93 yards and a touchdown in the Fiesta Bowl. That should serve as a springboard for Chase as he enters his sophomore campaign. Other than Justin Jefferson, the Tigers do not have any truly reliable weapons on the outside. With quarterback Joe Burrow back under center, Chase could be a candidate for a breakout season.
