No longer a 49er
Chaney (undisclosed) is no longer with the Charlotte 49ers' program, per Hunter Bailey of The Charlotte Observer.
ANALYSIS
No reason was given in Bailey's report, but Chaney is no longer a Charlotte 49er despite being projected as their top halfback this coming fall. The senior, who ran for 178 yards and three scores with Louisville last season, will presumably look for a new home via the transfer portal, while Charlotte figures to pivot to some combination of Rod Gainey, CJ Stokes and Henry Rutledge at halfback.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Chaney heads into 2021 as a piece to a crowded backfield in Coral Gables. As a freshman, Chaney showed flashes of potential, putting up 143 total against Duke and 94 total against Oklahoma State, but is battling Cam’Ron Harris and Jaylan Knighton for touches. Miami says they are committed to using a featured back rather than a committee, but it’s unsure if that’s game to game, or if a true lead will emerge. Long term, Chaney and Knighton have great potential as a thunder and lightning duo, but for 2021, it’s hard to predict a big breakout, as his style and body are more similar to Harris, who returned after flirting with the NFL Draft and likely didn’t do so to sit. He’ll get his touches, but anything more than a repeat of 2020 would surprise. He’s a year away from big potential.
