The Sun Devils are in desperate need of a playmaker in the backfield after Xazavian Valladay;’s graduation and Deniyel Ngata’s decision to transfer. Enter Brooks, who was languishing on the depth chart at Cal behind Jaydn Ott. It’s a reunion for Brooks and ASU running back coach Shaun Aguano, who coached the talented back to three state titles in high school. There’s little doubt that Brooks is set to thrive in the Sun Devils’ revamped offense under new coach Kenny Dillingham, who gave Bucky Irving a heavy workload as Oregon’s offensive coordinator in 2022. FCS transfer Cameron Skattebo brings an impressive pedigree to Tempe after a successful tenure at Sacramento State, where he was named the 2022 Big Sky Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year. Skattebo could give Brooks some competition in camp, but all arrows point to Brooks as the de facto starter.
