Though he began his career at Georgia in 2020, Smith likely would have had the option of sticking around for a sixth season of college football in 2025 after he received an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic's affect on the 2020 campaign and another year after qualifying for a redshirt in 2021 by playing in just four games. However, Smith has ultimately chosen to get his professional career underway following a redshirt senior campaign in which he established collegiate bests in catches (48) and receiving yards (817) while finding the end zone four times over 14 games.
