2025 Tournament PreviewTennessee enters the NCAA Tournament thriving off coach Rick Barnes' calling card -- lockdown defense that ranks third nationally in KenPom's efficiency metric. The Volunteers are suffocating on the perimeter, holding opponents to the lowest three-point percentage in the nation (27.6) to rank No. 1 in opponent effective field-goal shooting. Offense can be a struggle, especially if leading scorer Chaz Lanier (17.6 ppg) doesn't produce, as happened in the SEC tournament final. At 40.0 percent, Lanier is the only Vol with at least 50 three-point attempts who shoots higher than 33 percent from distance. The 6-10 Igor Milicic Jr. (10.0 ppg, 6.9 rpg) helps supply second-chance opportunities as Tennessee ranks 19th in offensive rebounding rate, but senior point guard Zakai Zeigler (13.7 ppg, 7.3 apg), who is known for defense, might need to help more on offense for an extended run. The Vols are 11-7 in Quad 1 with no bad losses, making a trip to at least the second weekend likely.
