2024 Tournament PreviewAfter failing to make the NCAA Tournament a season ago in coach Hubert Davis' second year, the Tar Heels are back in a big way. Talented combo guard Caleb Love might have transferred to Arizona, but seniors RJ Davis (21.4 ppg) and 6-11 Armando Bacot (14.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg) make a formidable inside-outside combo, with upperclassman transfers Harrison Ingram (12.1 ppg, 9.0 rpg) and Cormac Ryan (11.2 ppg) added to the mix. Davis shoots 40.6 percent from 3-point range, and while Bacot's counting stats dipped alongside Ingram, the frontcourt duo helps the Tar Heels rank ninth in the country in defensive rebounding rate and sixth in defensive efficiency (per KenPom). A slightly down year for the ACC limited UNC's Quad 1 opportunities, and the Tar Heels didn't fare well in non-conference play with losses to Villanova, Connecticut and Kentucky (but a win against Tennessee). UNC is the No. 1 seed in the West but might not be battle-tested enough for a deep run.
