2024 Tournament PreviewAkron is in March Madness for the second time in three seasons after winning the MAC tournament as the No. 2 seed. The conversation starts and ends with conference player of the year Enrique Freeman (18.6 ppg, 12.9 rpg), a 6-7 fifth-year senior who has 29 double-doubles in 34 games and is more than capable of contending with high-major defenders. Also on the wing is 6-8 senior Ali Ali (15.6 ppg), who teams with Freeman to hold opponents to 30.0 percent shooting on the perimeter, 13th lowest in the nation. On the other side, the Zips struggle from distance, shooting 32.1 percent (271st), with 6-9 senior Sammy Hunter (8.8 ppg) virtually the only long-range threat (36.4 percent). Akron tested itself with three Quad 1 games, but lost all. If the Zips are to win their first NCAA Tournament game in program history, Freeman will have to carry them.
