He left for the Adriatic League after one season and was selected by the Nuggets the following summer in the 2017 NBA Draft. He stayed in Europe and helped Slovenia to a gold medal in EuroBasket 2017, defeating Turkey in the finals. After two more seasons in Spain, Cancar made his way to the United States to sign his rookie deal with Denver. Cancar signed his first pro deal at the age of 18 with KK Olimpija of the Slovenian League. It was initially a five-year contract, but after one year in the Slovenian league, Cancar moved to KK Mega Basket of the Adriatic League. November 4, 2024
Cancar (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS Cancar has appeared in only one regular-season game thus far, during which he played two minutes and logged one rebound in the season-opening loss to the Thunder. The 27-year-old's absence shouldn't cause any waves in the rotation, and his next chance to play will come Wednesday versus the Thunder.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2017
Despite signing a new three-year deal with the Nuggets, there is very little chance Cancar sees enough playing time to warrant attention in fantasy. Since being drafted in 2017, he has barely seen the floor, at least consistently, leaving him as an afterthought for all fantasy managers. Coming off a season in which he played just 15 times, there is no reason to think he can have any sort of value.
Despite Cancar's status as a recent draft pick, he's spent the past two seasons playing professional ball in France, Slovenia and Serbiam getting plenty of experience. Like many international players, Cancar is likely to continue playing in overseas, as he still has time left on his contract with Mega Bemax in Serbia. Cancar is a lengthy forward who can play multiple positions, which fits what the Nuggets have looked for in recent years. The fact that he shot 62 percent from the field in the Serbian League last season and shot 40 percent from the three-point line in Liga ABA and SKL the past two seasons is also an encouraging sign for his development as a floor-spacing big. Scouts believe he can still grow into his long body, as he's got a 7'0' wingspan and a height of 6'9” at the ripe age of 20. That said, he'll likely continue to develop overseas rather than making the Nuggets' regular-season roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could see increased usage
FDenver Nuggets
September 9, 2024
Cancar could be one of the options the Nuggets might use to bolster their three-point shooting numbers in the 2024-25 season, according to Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.
ANALYSIS The Nuggets' three-point shooting might take a hit without Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Reggie Jackson and Justin Holiday. However, Denver has enough internal options to replace that shooting, at least in terms of volume, and Cancar is one of the players who could step into a larger role in that particular area. Cancar has shot 36.1 percent from beyond the arc across 130 games in his NBA career.
