2025 Fantasy Outlook
A rookie second-round pick, Kalkbrenner has a clear path to playing time as a rookie. The only other centers in Charlotte are Moussa Diabate and Mason Plumlee. Grant Williams, Miles Bridges and Tidjane Salaun could also see playing time as small-ball fives throughout the campaign. Kalkbrenner spent five years at Creighton and kept improving, finishing his career with averages of 19.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in 2024-25. He made 34.4 percent of his 1.7 three-point attempts per game and could be a unique 3-and-D piece for Charlotte, helping space the floor for LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Miles Bridges and Kon Knueppel. Kalkbrenner isn't guaranteed a role and will have to earn every minute, but he's in an ideal spot for fantasy purposes. He could deliver top-200 value if he capitalizes on the opportunity in front of him. Read Past Outlooks

Fares well off bench
Kalkbrenner finished with 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 FT), seven rebounds, two steals and one block across 25 minutes of Sunday's 135-114 preseason loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Mason Plumlee was out for personal reasons, while Moussa Diabate started at center and played 13 minutes. The Hornets gave all their starters a light workload, while Kalkbrenner led the team in minutes despite coming off the bench. Kalkbrenner has been generating a lot of buzz at training camp, and even if he doesn't start on Opening Night, it seems inevitable that he will win this position battle at some point soon.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Strong showing in camp
Kalkbrenner is making a strong case to earn a rotation spot in training camp, according to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Charles Lee had already spoke highly of the big man, saying he was impressed with his high basketball IQ, and it seems he's turning heads in camp with his two-way ability. The 34th pick of the 2025 draft is a seasoned Big East veteran out of Creighton and he's making a strong impression during training camp, which might make him a member of the rotation once the season starts.
