Branham took a big step back in his third NBA season with the Spurs. His workload dropped to 9.1 minutes per night, and he ended up making just 47 regular-season appearances. On a more positive note, he did shoot a career-high 45.8 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Spurs traded Branham, Blake Wesley and a 2026 second-round pick to the Wizards in exchange for Kelly Olynyk right after the start of free agency, presenting Branham with a fresh start. While the Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild, minutes won't exactly be easy to come by. The Wizards brought in CJ McCollum over the offseason, and they have a plethora of young guards and wings, including Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson, AJ Johnson and Cam Whitmore. Unless Branham can make some serious noise in training camp, he won't be guaranteed a rotation spot. Headed to Wasington
The Spurs traded Branham, Blake Wesley and a 2026 second-round pick to the Wizards in exchange for Kelly Olynyk (heel) on Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
				  ANALYSIS
Branham is set to join Washington, though he isn't guaranteed significant playing time in a crowded backcourt. The 22-year-old appeared in 47 regular-season games with San Antonio last season, averaging 5.0 points and 1.1 rebounds while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from downtown across a career-low 9.1 minutes per contest.

After back-to-back seasons in which he averaged at least 21 minutes per game, Branham's role could decline this season following the additions of Chris Paul and Stephon Castle. Branham finished well outside the top 300 during his sophomore campaign, averaging 9.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.2 three-pointers in 21.3 minutes per game. With a view to him potentially seeing fewer than 15 minutes per game this season, there is no reason to consider drafting him, even in deeper formats. However, he is someone to monitor down the stretch should the Spurs begin to focus more on their depth pieces, if and when the playoffs become unattainable.

				  Staking claim to bigger role
Branham has played well enough in the absence of Tre Jones to potentially keep a spot in the Spurs' backcourt rotation once the team is healthy, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports.
				  ANALYSIS
With Jones sidelined the last two games by an ankle injury, Branham has stepped up with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, three three-pointers and three combined steals and blocks across 31 minutes off the bench. The third-year guard began the season on the outside of the regular rotation, but he could be pushing his way back in. "He's been a pro," coach Gregg Popovich said after Monday's loss to the Rockets. "He's done what he needed to do at practice and shootarounds. He came in and was ready to go. A class act."
