Davis was a letdown during his rookie season, playing in just 28 games for the Wizards. In that time, he saw just 15.1 minutes per night, averaging 5.8 points, 1.0 assists and 0.6 three-pointers. He did manage to find some rhythm in the final month of the season, sliding into a larger role as the Wizards went into tank mode. He continued that momentum during the 2023 Summer League, compiling steady averages of 16.3 points per game, to go with 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 triples. While that is good on the surface, it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Despite parting ways with Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, the Wizards have added plenty of backcourt depth. Davis will have to compete with Delon Wright, Tyus Jones, Corey Kispert, Jordan Poole and Landry Shamet for playing time. A case could be made to play all of them ahead of Davis, foreshadowing what could be another rough season.
Davis emerged from relative obscurity as a sophomore at Wisconsin to earn consensus All-American First Team honors during the 2021-22 season on the back of 19.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals over 34.2 minutes per contest for a typically slow-paced team. The production earned him a 10th overall selection by the Wizards in the 2022 NBA Draft as a potential pairing with Bradley Beal for years to come. Davis may have an opportunity to find minutes on a Wizards club that doesn't appear ready to challenge in the East, but he didn't fare particularly well in his Summer League appearances. Over three tilts, Davis connected on just 29.6 percent of his shots and averaged 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 24.8 minutes. He struggled to create the separation needed to take advantage of his mid-range capabilities and hasn't developed a consistent enough shot from deep (33.3 percent in Summer League, 30.6 percent last year at Wisconsin) to be an asset in that respect yet. At best, the rookie figures to be a late-round flier in standard fantasy formats.
