Jase Richardson

19-Year-Old GuardG
Orlando Magic  NBA
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After coming off the bench to start his collegiate career, Richardson started his final 15 appearances under Spartans coach Tom Izzo, averaging 16.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 steals in 30.4 minutes per game during that stretch. Jase received Third-Team All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. As expected, given his family background, Richardson appears to have been trained by professionals his entire life. He's an elite shooter who's great at navigating screens, and his tape is like watching shooting drills. Richardson's 1-on-1 game relies on lethal stepback and hesitation moves, but he'll need to expand his game to be a go-to scorer in the NBA. He isn't a true point guard, but his shooting ability gives him a gravitational pull with defenders, and he's willing to find the open guy. There's nothing flashy on defense with Richardson, but he also doesn't make a lot of mistakes, which is rare for a freshman in Big Ten play. The Magic selected Richardson with the No. 25 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Jalen Suggs will start at point guard, while Anthony Black and Tyus Jones will also get minutes at the position, though Black can also play on the wing given his size. There should be opportunities for Richardson if he can knock down his open triples - something Orlando desperately needs and partially addressed by trading for Desmond Bane. The Year 1 fantasy potential is somewhat low, but it's possible Richardson shoulders his way into a consistent rotation role, especially if he can provide consistent buckets off the bench. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Basketball is the family business for the Richardsons. Jase's father, Jason, played 14 seasons in the NBA. His mother, Jackie, also played college ball and was influential in training the Michigan State standout during his youth. Jase was born in Berkeley, California, but attended Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas before transferring to Christopher Columbus in Florida. To be expected given his family tree, Richardson looks like he's been trained by pros his entire life. Richardson has a Stephen Curry (6'2, 185) quality about him when he's running around screens and raining threes from the clouds, but he's not that level of shooter or ballhandler. You can also see flashes of James Harden (6'5, 220) when Richardson splashes a lefty, stepback three-pointer, but Harden was bigger and a better point guard coming out of college. Jared McCain (6'3, 190) and Cameron Payne (6'3, 183) are more apt comparisons for Richardson. McCain looked like the clear favorite for Rookie of the Year last season before a season-ending knee injury, and Payne has carved out a solid NBA career as a backup point guard.

Paces Orlando in win
GOrlando Magic
October 4, 2025
Richardson supplied 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-3 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and one steal across 24 minutes in Saturday's 126-118 preseason win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Richardson recorded a game-high mark in scoring, with all of his points coming in the third quarter. The No. 25 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft has an opportunity to carve out a role with the Magic in his rookie season, though he'll likely have to compete for minutes off the bench with Anthony Black and Jett Howard. Richardson averaged 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists across 25.3 minutes per game in 36 outings during his lone collegiate campaign at Michigan State.

Looks strong in preseason opener
GOrlando Magic
October 6, 2025
Richardson impressed coach Jamahl Mosley with his play in Saturday's 126-118 preseason win over the Heat, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
"There's just a level of confidence that he possesses reading the game, recognizing what guys are doing and how they're playing him," Mosley said. "His speed is such a big advantage for him, but then the other side of it is we talked all the time about how inquisitive he is and how he wants to know what to do in any situation." The No. 25 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, Richardson finished with a team-high 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, to go with four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. This was just one game, obviously, but Richardson will be pushing hard for a rotation spot right away.
