Despite being one of the youngest players in the NBA last season, several injuries to the Grizzlies thrust Jackson into a larger role than expected. The 2023 second-round pick responded with a stellar rookie campaign, averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 25.7 minutes across 48 regular-season appearances, including 18 starts. While the 19-year-old forward shot just 42.8 percent from the field, his 35.7 percent shooting on 6.0 three-point attempts per contest was promising. While Jackson enjoyed a strong debut campaign, it's unclear what his role will be in 2024-25. Jackson underwent foot surgery in early September and is expected to miss at least the first month of the campaign. If Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson, Vince Williams, John Konchar and Santi Aldama are all healthy when Jackson is cleared to return, he will likely be forced into a minor backup forward role. Regardless, Jackson's impressive rookie season for such a young player was promising enough to warrant a late-round draft pick in deeper fantasy leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
GG Jackson was the 2022 South Carolina Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year and a two-time state champion with Ridge View High School after averaging 22.1 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Jackson was a consensus top collegiate prospect for the 2023 recruiting class. However, Jackson reclassified into the 2022 collegiate class, ultimately joining the South Carolina program after initially committing to UNC. Jackson is a Columbia, South Carolina native and represents the youngest player eligible for the 2023 NBA Draft -- still just 18 years old. Jackson averaged 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game during his one-and-done campaign at South Carolina. Jackson plays at his own rhythm and has the tools to be an elite self-creator. He was asked to create shots outside of his comfort zone in college, as South Carolina's offense was jumbled. He projects as a more efficient player once comfortable in a well-oiled NBA offense, but Jackson may still be a go-to option when the possession needs a bail out. He's shown an ability to fill different roles on offense -- ballhandler, screener, cutter, post-up -- due to his fluidity, shooting ability and size. Jackson fits the Michael Beasley, Derrick Williams scoring mold. His success as a rookie may depend on whether the coach is comfortable letting Jackson take things into his own hands, or if the desire is for the forward to play within a rigid system. A mix of both might create the right type of environment for Jackson to operate in a sixth-man role, whether it be in 2023 or later down the line.

Foot
October 29, 2024
Jackson (foot) said Tuesday on FanDuel's Run It Back show that he's targeting a return around mid-January.
ANALYSIS Jackson said he's trying to push himself to get back by late December, but the medical staff is being cautious, so realistically, he'll likely return to game action sometime in January. After a breakout rookie season for the injury-riddled Grizzlies, the second-round pick had high expectations for Year 2. However, he broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a summer workout, underwent surgery at the beginning of September and was ruled out for at least three months. When healthy, Jackson's role will presumably be smaller than he had last year, as Memphis' roster is much healthier, but he should still be able to carve out a reserve role.

Secures All-Summer Team honors
FMemphis Grizzlies
July 22, 2024
Jackson was named to the NBA 2K25 All-Summer League First Team on Monday.
ANALYSIS Jackson was well deserving of this recognition due to his strong play over the last few weeks. He averaged 20.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists over five appearances, leading his squad to the Summer League Championship Game against the Heat. The South Carolina product could have an opportunity to take another step forward during the upcoming 2024-25 season, as he looks to see consistent minutes at forward behind Desmond Bane.
