Fans can learn more about Mathews on Twitter (@gmathews_24). For four years (2015-19) at Lipscomb University, Mathews dedicated himself solely to basketball after playing both basketball and football in high school. He became one of the top players in program history, setting the school's Division I-era records in single-game scoring, career scoring and three-pointers made. Mathews came off the bench for most of his freshman season, but he still registered 20.8 minutes per game while averaging 10.9 points per contest in the Atlantic Sun Conference. During his sophomore season (2016-17), Mathews was a permanent fixture in the starting lineup and averaged 20.4 points, 5.6 boards, 2.3 assists and 2.8 three-pointers. In his junior year, Mathews led the Bisons to their first ever NCAA Tournament. After his senior season (2018-19), Mathews was named to the All-ASUN First Team and honored as the ASUN Player of the Year. Furthermore, Mathews' college career total of 2,478 points ranks him as the all-time leading scorer in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
ANALYSIS Mathews nabbed a spot start in Atlanta's last game. However, with Jalen Johnson (lower leg) available, Mathews will shift back to the second unit. In 14 appearances, Mathews is averaging 10.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists across 21.7 minutes.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Mathews had a minor breakout during the 2021-22 season, scoring at least 20 points in five contests -- at one point logging double-digit scoring in nine straight games. At times, he was a sneaky three-point streaming option, ending the campaign by drilling 2.1 triples per night. His minutes were far from consistent, however. That's likely to stick moving forward. While he may have some short-term appeal throughout the season, it is hard to see him carving out a meaningful role on a nightly basis. In deeper formats, he presents as a somewhat reliable source of perimeter scoring, but his lack of peripheral numbers means he offers next to no upside.
