Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Koloko was born on June 20, 2000, in Douala, Cameroon. He grew up playing soccer and picked up basketball at the age of 12. As a junior in high school, without knowing any English, Koloko moved to the states to play basketball at Birmingham High School in Lake Balboa, California. For his senior season, he transferred to high school powerhouse Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California, where he was teammates with Cassius Stanley, Kenyon Martin Jr. and Scotty Pippen Jr. Koloko helped the school claim its second straight Open Division state title. As a four-star recruit, he committed to playing college basketball for Arizona over offers from California, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Harvard and Princeton. He came on to the scene as a junior, averaging 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. To finish off his college career, he was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Pac-12 Most Improved Player, and first-team All-Pac-12. On April 18, 2022, Koloko declared for the 2022 NBA draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility. He was picked by the Toronto Raptors in the second round with the 33rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick said Wednesday that Koloko (illness) will begin his return-to-play process with the G League's South Bay Lakers, though a timeline for the center to do so remains unspecified, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS Koloko's health following a blood clot issue that sidelined him for the entire 2023-24 season continues to be overseen by the NBA's Fitness-to-Play Panel, but he is gradually progressing toward becoming fully cleared. The 24-year-old is one of the Lakers' three two-way players.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Koloko's rookie season was nothing to write home about, averaging just 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 13.8 minutes per game. Despite having youth on his side, Koloko is unlikely to see a larger role this season, playing behind Jakob Poeltl, Precious Achiuwa and Chris Boucher. He does have some defensive upside, something he demonstrated sporadically during his rookie campaign, highlighted by a career-high six blocks during a victory in Chicago. While he isn't worth drafting, managers might want to keep an eye on his role, just in case he somehow carves out upwards of 18 minutes per night.
In a year the Raptors sported only one draft pick, the club used it to take Koloko with the 33rd overall selection. The 7-footer made his presence known on the defensive end of the floor during Summer League action, compiling 2.2 blocks and 1.8 steals per contest. He added 7.8 points, plus 4.2 boards and 1.1 assists, but he converted just 36.6 percent from the field. That's especially surprising, considering he knocked down 40 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. Koloko's struggles shooting is a small enough sample size that it can likely be dismissed, given his 63.5 conversion rate from the field at Arizona in 2021-22. However, his 4.0 fouls over 22.1 minutes per game may suggest he will have trouble with some aspects of defending at the next level. Regardless of his possible future impact, the Raptors likely view Koloko as a project. Therefore, from a fantasy perspective, potential managers should primarily roster him in only dynasty or deep keeper formats.
