Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Spencer played high school basketball at the Boys Latin School of Maryland and was named the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association Player of the Year as a senior. Entering college, Spencer was a three-star recruit and committed to the Loyola Greyhounds. The 6-foot-4 guard was named to the Patriot League All-Freshman Team in 2019-20 before suffering a hip injury that caused him to miss most of his sophomore campaign. Spencer was named first-team All-Patriot League as a junior after averaging 18.9 points. He then transferred to Rutgers where he made 34 starts in 2022-23. Spencer used his extra year of eligibility (from COVID-19) to transfer to UConn and helped the Huskies secure their second of back-to-back NCAA Championships. He averaged 14.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.5 steals in 33.0 minutes across 40 games in 2023-24, all of which were starts. His older brother, Pat, is a two-way player for the Golden State Warriors. Spencer is one of the best outside shooters in his class, which he illustrated by shooting 44.0% on 5.6 three-point attempts per contest in 2023-24. The 6-foot-4 guard excels playing off-ball and doesn't need a lot of touches to score efficiently. Spencer is also a smart defender who is adept and reading passing lanes and creating turnovers. Spencer possesses a similar skillset to those of Max Strus and Corey Kispert as elite spot-up shooters who can hold their own defensively. In the NBA, Spencer's shooting ability should translate immediately, allowing him to provide spacing for second units.

Back from thumb injury in G League
GMemphis Hustle   G League (Grizzlies)
February 21, 2025
Spencer (thumb) tallied 13 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five assists, one rebound and one steal across 27 minutes Thursday in the G League Memphis Hustle's 134-110 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
ANALYSIS
The two-way player made his first appearance for the Grizzlies or Hustle since Jan. 6, after he had been sidelined while recovering from surgery to repair a fractured thumb. The Grizzlies are at full health at the moment, so Spencer is likely to see the bulk of his playing time in the G League for the foreseeable future.

Takes part in Minnesota workout
GMemphis Hustle   G League (Grizzlies)
June 13, 2024
Spencer was among a group of prospects who participated in a workout for the Timberwolves on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Spencer, a 6-foot-4 guard who spent the 2023-24 season at Connecticut, played the final three years of his college career as a starter, so he would add some valuable experience for any team that chooses him in the draft. Spencer shot an impressive 44 percent from three-point range in the 2023-24 with the Huskies while also putting up 14.3 points per game. He could find himself with a viable role as a long-range shooter at the next level.
