Caleb Martin

28-Year-Old ForwardF
Philadelphia 76ers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Martin was a core member of the Heat's rotation the past three seasons, averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.5 blocks and 1.2 triples across 26.7 minutes per game. He's coming off a solid season on the offensive end of the court, as his 10.0 points and 2.2 assists per game represent career-high marks for him, but it's hard to see those numbers improving -- or even staying steady -- now that he'll play for the 76ers. First, his shooting percentages were already trending in the wrong direction. His 34.9 percent accuracy from three-point range doesn't cut it, especially if most of his offense will likely come off spot-up shooting opportunities in an offensive scheme filled with high-usage players such as Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George, just to mention a few. Martin could earn a starting role in the frontcourt alongside George and Embiid. Still, given he's going to have a secondary role on offense and doesn't do much in other categories, he's expected to experience some kind of regression in most significant categories, making him worth a late flier in most drafts as a best-case scenario based on the fact he's expected to start in a contending team. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Caleb Martin was born in 1995 in Mocksville, North Carolina to Jenny Bennett. He has a twin brother, Cody, who was selected by the Hornets in the second round of the 2019 Draft. The two attended hometown Davie County High School for three years, with Caleb also playing football during his freshman season. For their senior season, they transferred to the famed Oak Hill Academy in Virginia on a team that compiled a 41-4 record. Heading into college, Martin was ranked the No. 46 recruit by Scout.com, No. 60 via Rivals, and No. 62 in ESPN's Top 100. You can follow him on Twitter (@Calebmartin14) and Instagram (@caleb_martin10). Martin spent his entire four-year collegiate career playing with his brother Cody. The duo began at North Carolina State, where Caleb appeared in 36 games as a freshman, averaging 4.8 points and 2.9 rebounds. Martin's role expanded his sophomore year, as he started 19 games and averaged 11.5 PPG. He was especially effective early in that season, averaging 16.8 points over the first eight games of the year. Caleb and his brother then elected to transfer and sit out the 2016-17 season before committing to their final landing spot in Nevada. Martin's production ramped up significantly playing in the Mountain West, as he was named Conference Player of the Year his junior season after averaging 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds. Martin spent much of his senior year on Wooden Award watchlists, but he was also named First Team All-MWC and made the All-Defense Team. Furthermore, Martin led the conference in three-pointers made with 107 that year. He went undrafted, but he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Hornets the following summer.

Martin has agreed to terms on a four-year, $32 million contract with the 76ers, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin was a core member of the Heat's rotation the past three seasons, averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.5 blocks and 1.2 triples across 26.7 minutes per game. He figures to play a similar role in Philadelphia, where he will presumably compete for minutes on the wing with the likes of Eric Gordon, Kelly Oubre and Jared McCain.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
After making a name for himself during the 2023 playoffs, Martin enters the 2023-24 season with a small amount of momentum. Despite the fanfare, he barely finished inside the top 150, averaging 9.6 points to go with 4.8 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.2 three-pointers. The Heat are very thin when it comes to depth at the forward position, meaning Martin should once again play a significant role. With that said, it is hard to see him making substantial improvements based on what we have seen from him over the past two years. He is worth a look toward the backend of drafts, although, by that point, managers should really be searching for someone with more upside.
Martin had a surprisingly large role for the Heat last season, and there is a decent chance his 22.9 minutes per game increases this season. With the departure of P.J. Tucker, there is the potential for Martin to slide into the starting lineup at forward. He started 12 games last season when injuries ravaged the team. His season averages of 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks improved to 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.8 blocks and 0.7 steals in those starts. His efficiency was also impressive, shooting 50.7 percent from the field, 41.3 percent from three and 76.3 percent from the line. Martin is also one of the team's better defenders, ensuring he receives consistent minutes throughout the season. Even if Martin does not end up moving into the starting lineup, he will be an option in deeper leagues, as he should consistently see north of 20 minutes per game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Sixers showing interest
FFree Agent
July 5, 2024
The 76ers are interested in signing Martin in free agency but only for a reasonable price tag, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though Neubeck stated that the 76ers have an interest in the free-agent forward, they also acknowledge that Martin might be out of their budget, at least from a realistic perspective. Philadelphia is expected to continue to monitor Martin's market. Still, the forward wants to earn around $15 million per year with his new contract, and no team has come even close to offering such a sum.
