Brandin Podziemski

Brandin Podziemski

21-Year-Old GuardG
Golden State Warriors
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Podziemski enjoyed a solid rookie year with the Warriors, averaging 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, but more importantly, starting 28 games (out of 74 appearances) and logging a solid 26.6 minutes per game. Things are on the upside trajectory for Podzmieski, as the Warriors parted ways with Klay Thompson in the offseason, so the second-year guard is likely to open the season as the starting shooting guard while Buddy Hield comes off the bench. Scoring aside, Podziemski has already proven himself to be one of the best rebounding guards in the NBA, trailing only Luka Doncic, Josh Hart and Josh Giddey in the category last season. The uptick in minutes and more significant role should translate to Podziemski averaging double-digit points for the first time in his career, especially if he's able to maintain the same efficiency levels he showed as a rookie -- he shot 45.4 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point range. Maintaining efficiency while experiencing an uptick in volume will be vital to preserving his fantasy upside. Still, and unless Podziemski suffers a massive regression, he's primed to be a solid -- if not better -- fantasy asset in all categories as Stephen Curry's teammate in the Warriors' backcourt. Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Brandin Podziemski has rapidly emerged as a top-60 prospect after averaging just 4.1 minutes per game across 16 contests with Illinois as a freshman. Transferring to Santa Clara led to serious scoring and impressive accolades for Podziemski. Donned the WCC co-Player of the Year, Podziemski averaged 19.9 points on 48/44/77 percent shooting. He's also an elite rebounder for a guard, racking up 8.8 rebounds per game to go along with 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals. Podziemski is a versatile contributor, but the selling point is a smooth stroke from beyond the arc, though his relatively short wingspan will make it tougher to get his shot off in the NBA. Santa Clara has been a reliable NBA pipeline of late, with Jalen Williams illustrating that Podziemski's big numbers aren't just fluff. His shooting is impressive, and he finished with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in his scrimmage at the Combine. Being small in size and stature is a concern for Podziemski, who has demonstrated a knack for initiating contact (4.5 FTA/g). Drawing fouls and canning threes is a good recipe for success if the former can translate. Some combination of rebounding prowess, reliable passing and tolerable defense will also need to translate. That said, Podziemski's shooting sets him up as a bench scorer and sparkplug. A role of 10-15 minutes per night is realistically Podziemski's usage in year one. His rebounding skills are very Josh Hart-esque. Damion Lee comes to mind as another comparison.

ANALYSIS
The Warriors announced the rookie would be in the starting lineup Thursday, but in the end, he'll coming off the bench and Chris Paul will get the nod alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt. Podziemski is averaging 9.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game when deployed off the bench.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could battle for starting role
GGolden State Warriors
September 4, 2024
Podziemski is in the mix to open the 2024-25 season as the Warriors' starting shooting guard, Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area writes.
ANALYSIS
The Warriors will have Stephen Curry running the show at point guard, but it's unclear who will start the season next to him in the backcourt. Podziemski seems to be leading the race to earn that role, as he started 28 games as a rookie while Klay Thompson was still part of the Warriors last season. The second-year guard offers a more balanced game compared to other options such as Buddy Hield or De'Anthony Melton. Head coach Steve Kerr needs to make a decision based on who will better complement the star floor general.
