2025 Fantasy Outlook
Contreras had an .824 OPS in his first full year as a starter in 2023 after being traded from Atlanta to Milwaukee, and he delivered similar results in 2024 with a .281/.365/.466 slash line, 23 homers, 92 RBI and nine steals while playing in 155 games. The 27-year-old's framing numbers behind the plate took a major step forward during his first year with the Brewers, though those regressed significantly last season. Still, he's a much-improved defender from earlier in his career. Contreras' 131 wRC+ in 2024 was the best in MLB among catchers with at least 400 plate appearances by a significant margin, and he has a strong case to be considered the best catcher in baseball. He made 120 appearances at catcher and 35 at designated hitter, and his everyday presence in the lineup is a major boost to his fantasy value in an era where catchers are receiving more time off. Displaying Silver Slugger talents
Contreras is 11-for-29 (.379) with two home runs, seven RBI, two stolen bases and a 5:4 BB:K through 12 exhibition games.
ANALYSIS
The National League's reigning Silver Slugger at catcher has posted a 1.092 OPS this spring, and the stolen bases should not come as a surprise considering he tallied nine of them over 155 regular-season appearances in 2024. Contreras will again be the primary catcher for the Brewers and will occupy a prime run-producing spot in the batting order.

Contreras fully stepped out of his older brother's shadow in 2023, and in fact led all catcher-eligible players in earned fantasy value. Traded from Atlanta to Milwaukee last winter, he logged 611 plate appearances in his first season with the Brewers -- a number padded by 29 starts at designated hitter, in addition to his 108 behind the dish. He hit .314 after the All-Star break to finish at .289 for the season, though Statcast puts his expected batting average at only .253. Contreras grounded into a whopping 23 double plays and still surpassed 160 runs-plus-RBI, and he will be in the middle of everything the Brewers do once again in 2024. While he may not see quite as many starts as the DH, his playing time is secure on account of his hitting and excellent blocking and framing metrics. There's already a lot to like and a jump in power is not out of the question.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could have untapped production
Contreras has racked up 12 doubles in addition to three home runs over his past 100 plate appearances.
ANALYSIS
Contreras' .263/.342/.449 expected slash line for the season aligns with his actual production. However, the 25-year-old racking up 26 doubles alongside his 12 home runs indicates that the full extent of his slugging isn't conveying to fantasy production at the moment. Contreras is slashing .330/.362/.540 since the All-Star break.
