Struggling with Trenton
Rijo is slashing .243/.309/.338 with zero home runs and one steal in 74 at-bats with Double-A Trenton.
ANALYSIS
He was shipped to New York from Milwaukee as part of the deal that sent backup catcher Erik Kratz to the Brewers earlier this summer, but has struggled to get going in his new organization. At best, he profiles as a utility player off the bench in the big leagues, but may not even achieve that level of professional success.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2014
The 20-year-old Rijo played a full year at High-A Salem in 2015 and held his own among older players. He slashed .260/.324/.381/.705 with 27 doubles, two triples and six homers in 455 plate appearances. Rijo maintained his effectiveness at the plate, showing good pop for a middle infielder, but experienced a drop in his walk rate. He can steal a base – Rijo stole 15 bases and was caught seven times – and averages 15 steals over the previous three seasons. At this point, his hit tool is well ahead of his defense. He gets a little lazy in his mechanics and shows poor fundamentals. The bat makes him an intriguing prospect, but Rijo really needs to focus on his fielding if he’s going to play every day in the majors. His average arm locks him in at second base in the infield, but that’s well-stocked position in the organization. Rijo will move up to Double-A Portland in 2016.
