Tyler Fitzgerald

Tyler Fitzgerald

27-Year-Old ShortstopSS
San Francisco Giants
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fitzgerald's overall production was somewhat predicted by his work in the minors the previous two seasons as he was a 20-20 player in both Double-A and Triple-A in the San Francisco system. He made the club out of camp, but did not see consistent playing time and was even sent back down to Triple-A until the just before the All-Star break. He homered in his last start before the break, and then proceeded to homer in each of the first four games after the break. That magical week was fun, but Fitzgerald only went on to homer nine more timest he season of the season with a .263/.311/.455 triple-slash line in the second half. The homers and steals were there, but so wwere the strikeouts as Fitzgerald has consistenly had below-average strikeout rates throughout his professional career. He made his living off hunting for fastballs hitting .328 (.287 xBA) with 9 of his 15 homers coming off fastballs, but his expected batting averages off non-fastballs was near .150 with a 44% whiff rate. The Giants have already said this winter that they are looking to add an everyday shortstop which potentially speaks to their desire to use Fitzgerald as a super-utility player as well as their acknowledgement that this is a risky skillset to bank on for an everyday player. You would be wise to give credence to their expressed thoughts and actions. Read Past Outlooks

Slotted in at second base
SSSan Francisco Giants
December 9, 2024
Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said Monday that he sees Fitzgerald as the team's regular second baseman next season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Posey couldn't comment on the Willy Adames signing yet because it's not official, but with Adames aboard, Fitzgerald will slide over to the keystone. The position is not foreign to Fitzgerald, who started four games at second base for the Giants in 2024 and 87 during his time in the minors. Fitzgerald had a mini-breakout with San Francisco this season, slashing .280/.334/.497 while hitting 15 homers and stealing 17 bases over 96 games.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Fitzgerald really struggled in 2022 at Double-A Richmond but bounced back in a major way in 2023, slashing an impressive .292/.365/.511 with 22 home runs and 32 stolen bases between Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento. It earned him a late-season cup of coffee with the Giants and the 26-year-old popped two more homers and stole a couple more bases in 10 games. Fitzgerald struck out at a 29.4 percent rate with the big club after fanning at a 28.3 percent rate in the minors, so making contact could be an ongoing issue. He has legitimate pull-side power and stolen-base chops, though, offering some deep-league intrigue should he land a utility job.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Best NL rookie in July
SSSan Francisco Giants
August 6, 2024
Fitzgerald was named the National League Rookie of the Month for July on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old made San Francisco's Opening Day roster but had a few stints at Triple-A Sacramento during the first few months of the season. Fitzgerald saw inconsistent playing time early in July, but he took over as the Giants' primary shortstop after the All-Star break and finished the month with eight homers and a .321/.390/.849 slash line in just 16 games. He's also off to a hot start in August, as he's gone 7-for-17 with three homers in four games.
