2025 Fantasy Outlook
Alexander's 2024 season was a bit all over the place. He allowed four or more earned runs in eight of his outings, yet also came within five outs of throwing a perfect game when he took a perfecto into the eighth inning against Toronto on May 17. Alexander won six games, but five of those came as a bulk pitcher, as he won just one of his nine traditional starts. The challenge for Alexander was keeping the ball in the yard, as a 1.9 HR/9 rate was a continuation of what got him into trouble in his time with the Detroit organization from 2019 to 2023. Alexander truly needs a bigger ballpark to avoid these risks, but he ended up in Milwaukee on a one-year deal and will be an option in the rotation or the bullpen. He did add a sweeper in 2024 and used it as his tertiary offering, while his fastballs (4, 2, cutter) allowed 19 homers. Read Past Outlooks

Sees action in opener
Alexander tossed a scoreless inning in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
ANALYSIS
Alexander did not have to wait long to make his first appearance with the Brewers, and he kept the opponent at bay with Milwaukee trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Alexander figures to primarily serve as a long reliever, but he did extend up to 70 pitches during spring training and could be a candidate for a spot start, as the Brewers opened the season with only three true traditional starting pitchers on the 26-man roster.

Tarik Skubal's Cy Young defense gets off to a tough start this weekend as he takes on the defending champions in Dodger Stadium. Where does he rank in Todd Zola's first pitcher rankings of the year?

Todd Zola tries to remove volume from the equation when determining the value of pitchers, and finds that the market may have over-corrected on Logan Webb.

Brad Johnson covers pitching in the National League Central, and in Cincinnati, Nick Lodolo is a starting pitcher to keep an eye on.

Tarik Skubal leads the final pitcher rankings of the season, but like many starters in the final week, his second start is up in the air.

Alexander was used in a swingman role again in 2022, faring much better as a reliever (1.29 ERA in 10 appearances) than a starter (5.74 ERA in 17 appearances). His strikeout rate bottomed out in both roles at just 14.3 percent, down significantly from his career 20 percent rate which was already below average. The southpaw was sidelined by an elbow injury during the first half but didn't have any issues after returning. Alexander has excellent control and is generally pretty good at avoiding hard contact, but he also has major home run issues which might only be exacerbated by the Comerica Park dimensions changes.

ANALYSIS
The righty had tough sledding with a 6.03 ERA in his first 31.1 big-league innings this year (eight appearances, five starts) but will get a chance to improve on those numbers in the final month as the rebuilding Tigers play out the string. Alexander's 5.13 ERA for Triple-A Toledo hides useful command peripherals: 9.9 K/9, 2.1 BB/9 in 98.1 innings (20 appearances, 16 starts).
