Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Kahnle hasn't had a season where he avoided the injured list since 2019, and he threw a total of just 13.2 regular-season innings from 2020-22. However, the 35-year-old has been effective when on the bump, most recently posting a 2.11 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB over 42.2 regular-season innings with the Yankees last season. Kahnle once again had the highest pitch percentage of changeups in the league at 73.1 percent, an offering that produced a Statcast Run Value of 10 which was 4th-highest in the league for that pitch type. After signing a 1-year, $7.75 million deal with Detroit this offseason, Kahnle is expected to be part of the late-inning mix for the Tigers, which could ultimately include save opportunities. Notches first save of season
Kahnle worked a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his first save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
A hit-by-pitch spoiled what was otherwise a perfect inning for the right-hander in his first save chance of the year. It likely won't be Kahnle's last -- Beau Brieske, who blew his first save chance Friday, entered Tuesday's game with two outs in the sixth inning. Tyler Holton could also factor into the ninth-inning mix against tough left-handed hitters, and Jason Foley might return to the big-league bullpen if he pitches well for Triple-A Toledo, but for now Kahnle appears to be the favorite to close for the Tigers.

Kahnle was limited to just 40.2 innings after beginning the season on the 60-day IL with right biceps tendinitis, delaying his debut until June 1. Kahnle was typically effective, though his K-BB% fell for the second straight season, landing at 17.6 percent, his lowest mark since 2018. Kahnle's four-season velocity dropped a tick, but he throws a changeup 75 percent of the time, and that also dropped 1-mph, so the delta remained the same. Kahnle was mostly deployed in a late inning capacity, logging 14 holds and two saves. He should reprise that role this season, so he's useful in leagues scoring holds.

Close to deal with Detroit
The Tigers are nearing an agreement with Kahnle, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press says it will be a one-year deal. Kahnle has had some trouble staying healthy but has been very effective when able to toe the rubber, most recently holding a 2.11 ERA and 46:19 K:BB over 42.2 regular-season innings with the Yankees. He would be part of the late-inning mix in Detroit.
