Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
It wasn't always pretty, but Steer turned in a 20-20 season while leading the Reds with 92 RBI. He seemed to run out of gas at the end, limping to a .165 average in September, which dragged him down to just .225 for the season. Steer's strikeout rate remained identical to his 2023 mark at 20.9% and he added a couple points to his hard-hit rate. However, his BABIP cratered from .318 to .260. His relatively pull-heavy approach from the right side makes him a nice fit in Great American Ball Park, but his batted-ball profile is underwhelming and the band box doesn't completely hide his flaws. While he's now lost third-base eligibility in fantasy baseball, Steer retains eligibility at first base and outfield entering his age-27 season in 2025. In theory, Steer and the entire Reds team should benefit from new manager Terry Francona's experience and expertise. Read Past Outlooks

Won't start Wednesday
Steer was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox due to a hand injury, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis
Earlier Wednesday, the Reds and Red Sox resumed their game from Tuesday that was suspended in the top of the fourth inning. Though Steer was able to play the entire game and finished 1-for-2 with a two-run home run, he experienced swelling on his hand after being hit by a pitch in the seventh inning. The Reds initially included him in the lineup for the nightcap, but Steer will end up sitting while Christian Encarnacion-Strand enters the lineup at first base. With the Reds off Thursday, Steer could be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Phillies.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Steer tends to be overshadowed a bit in the Reds' rebuild, as he doesn't have the power of Christian Encarnacion-Strand or the speed of Elly De La Cruz or the hit tool of Matt McLain. However, Steer does a lot well and showed in his first full season in Cincinnati that he has the potential to be a long-term foundational piece for the organization. At 25 years old, Steer struck out just over 20 percent of the time and notched 23 homers and 15 steals while moving around between first base (73 games), third base (47 games), outfield (47 games) and second base (16 games). While he may not light up Statcast with his batted-ball numbers -- in fact Steer ranked in the bottom 26 percent of the league in hard-hit rate -- he has an exceptional approach at the plate and does not often go chasing outside the strike zone. He had more homers and a higher OPS on the road than he did at home last season, so it wasn't all GABP-driven.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

No word on extension
Per Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Steer said in early April that he didn't know of any attempts by the Reds to negotiate a contract extension with him.
Analysis
Steer had 20 home runs and 25 stolen bases with a .721 OPS in 158 games last season, though his .225 batting average was a significant drop from his .271 mark in 2023. The 27-year-old is making $780,000 this season in his final year before arbitration, so he's due a big raise in 2026 even if an extension isn't reached. Steer is off to a slow start this year with a .199/.271/.333 slash line through 37 contests.
