2024 Fantasy Outlook
Effross, who underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2022 and missed all of last season, hopes to be ready for spring training after progressing to bullpens and live batting practice over the fall. The side-armer has been limited to 71.1 innings in the majors since making his debut in 2021, but he's been highly successful with a 2.78 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 80:16 K:BB ratio. Effross is an emerging reliever in the league whose return is highly anticipated. He should have a high-leverage role for the Yankees to open 2024 if health prevails this spring. Read Past Outlooks
Sent to Triple-A
Effross was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Effross logged 1.1 innings Friday and may not have been used Sunday, so he was the roster casualty to make room for Ben Rice.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Effross doesn't throw hard - he averages just 90.8 mph on his fastball - but averaged a ridiculous 17.3 inches of break on the pitch. His sinker (34% pitch usage) still needs work, but the side-armer's fastball movement, combined with an effective slider (40%) and much-improved changeup (15%), yielded excellent results. Effross pitched a career-high 56.2 innings between the Cubs and Yankees, with a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 62:15 K:BB ratio. Unfortunately, a strained shoulder sidelined him for just over a month late in the season, then he missed the playoffs after undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery. Effross is also expected to miss the 2023 season, but this emerging reliever most certainly will factor into the Yankees' late-innings plans in 2024 and beyond.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Future closer?
With Chris Martin traded and both Daniel Robertson and Mychal Givens likely to be dealt, Effross is a possibility to close games for the Cubs after the trade deadline.
ANALYSIS
Effross has been one of Chicago's most effective relievers this season, compiling a 2.66 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB in 44 innings across 47 appearances. The 28-year-old has fanned 28.8 percent of the batters he's faced despite having an average fastball velocity of 91.4 miles per hour. He's dominated left-handed hitters, as they've produced a .132/.220/.245 line in 60 plate appearances, and held righties to a .615 OPS. Should the Cubs trade away their free-agent-to-be relievers, Effross will likely be given chances to close out games down the stretch.
