Ryan Ward

Ryan Ward

27-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Los Angeles Dodgers
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Ward was talked up by general manager Brandon Gomes at the GM Meetings in November, and while the lefty-hitting outfielder is entering his age-28 season and carries little dynasty intrigue, he enters the year one injury away from a shot. Despite his age, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Ward hasn't reached the majors since getting selected in the eighth round of the 2019 draft. He slashed .290/.380/.557 with 36 homers, 16 steals and an 18.7 percent strikeout rate in 143 games in the Pacific Coast League, but in those cartoonish hitting environments, this only translates to a 132 wRC+, which should be expected of a bat-first player his age at Triple-A. The Dodgers went on to sign Kyle Tucker after Gomes' comments, but if Tommy Edman plays mostly second base and Mookie Betts plays shortstop, that would leave righty-hitting Alex Call as the only other outfielder on the 40-man roster outside of starters Tucker, Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez. Ward and Call could form a productive platoon in the event of an injury. Read Past Outlooks

Talked up by GM
OFLos Angeles Dodgers
November 17, 2025
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said during last week's GM Meetings that Ward is expected to "get a bunch of opportunities at some point this year," Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis
Ward was never called up by the Dodgers in 2025 despite slashing a robust .292/.382/.558 with 36 homers and 16 steals at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he was added to the 40-man roster earlier this month. The 27-year-old can play the corner outfield spots and first base and is worthy of an opportunity at the big-league level. While the Dodgers appear to have a starting job in the outfield available and Gomes has talked Ward up, it still seems unlikely the club would head into 2026 counting on Ward to be a regular presence in its lineup.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Ward has clubbed 56 home runs over the last two years in his only two full minor-league seasons, including 28 in 2022 in his first taste of Double-A ball. His overall batting line was right at league-average, though, and he went unselected after the Dodgers left him exposed for the Rule 5 Draft. Ward's raw power is real, but his plate discipline isn't great and his defense is well below average. Another full season in the minors seems likely.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be moved after Tucker deal
OFLos Angeles Dodgers
January 17, 2026
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic relays that the Dodgers are likely to explore deals for Ward after signing Kyle Tucker to a four-year, $240 million contract Thursday.
Analysis
Ward spent the entire 2025 season in the minors with Triple-A Oklahoma City and was named the MVP of the Pacific Coast League after posting a .940 OPS with 16 steals, 113 runs, 36 home runs and 122 RBI over 652 plate appearances. Rosenthal notes that the Dodgers are more likely to shift Teoscar Hernandez to left field rather than trade him following the acquisition of Tucker. That leaves Ward as an asset the Dodgers can use to bolster other parts of their major-league roster ahead of the 2026 campaign.
