2025 Fantasy Outlook
Olson carried over his strong finish from the 2023 season with an even better showing in 2024. The right-hander had two pitches with a whiff rate of over 40 percent in his slider and changeup and he also upped his ground ball rate from above average at 42.8 percent in 2023 to elite at 50.6 percent in 2024. Olson did miss more than two months of action with a shoulder injury and had his workload limited down the stretch after returning in September, but he was able to turn in two strong starts during the ALDS. The 30.1 percent strikeout rate Olson had between the Double- and Triple-A levels has not yet translated to the majors, but he can get by with a 23 percent strikeout rate at the big-league level, particularly since it's come with an improved 7.4 percent walk rate. A favorable home park and a good young team behind him only further accentuates Olson's appeal, provided the shoulder issue is behind him. Read Past Outlooks

Given PRP injection
Olson has been given a platelet-rich plasma injection in his injured right shoulder, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis
Olson will not require surgery for his right shoulder strain, but he has already been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season. The hope is that the PRP injection will help speed along the healing process and give Olson a chance to return at some point during the postseason, should the Tigers make a playoff run.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Olson spent the first two months with Triple-A Toledo, compiling an unimpressive 6.38 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 10 starts. However, the Tigers needed a healthy arm and Olson had been pitching better in late May, so he was summoned to make his major league debut in early June. He stayed in The Show the rest of the season, starting in 18 of 21 appearances. Olson didn't miss bats at the elevated rate exhibited in the minors, but his control improved greatly. He throws five pitches, including a 95-mph four-seam fastball and a 95-mph sinker, but his best pitch is a slider he utilized 30.6 percent of the time. Still just 24-years-old, there is a good chance Olson can recapture some of the dominance exhibited in the minors, though only his slider is deemed above average according to Stuff+. Olson has carved out a role in the Tigers staff, but he's not assured of being in the Opening Day rotation. Even so, he's displayed enough to be a fantasy asset, with sneaky upside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Service time manipulation possible?
The Tigers could prevent Olson from reaching Super Two status if he is optioned to Triple-A Toledo for the first few weeks of the season, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis
It could work against Olson in cracking the Opening Day rotation, as there are no service time considerations with Matt Manning or Casey Mize, Olson's two competitors for the final two rotation spots. Olson posted a 1.44 ERA last September and has followed it up with a solid showing this spring, but he nonetheless might find himself at Toledo to begin the season.
